Notes |
- From funeral program:
Matthew William Schirmer was born on February 16th, 1960 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was the eighth child and sixth son of William and Jean Schirmer. Matthew was a sick little baby, needing several transfusions because of a RH negative blood factor. But with the love and devotion of his parents, and against all odds, he survived and grew into the wonderful young man we all loved so much.
He went to Immaculate Conception Grammar School in Elizabeth, Saint Peter's Prep in Jersey City, and Tulane University in New Orleans, where he received a degree in Engineering. He eventually received his MBA from the University of Texas. For many years he worked at IBM in Austin, Texas, until he decided to branch out into the car-washing industry. Wanting to be his own boss, he eventually owned, operated, and supplied his own companies.
A religious man, whose "Goodbye" was always "God bless," he also became very involved in his church in Austin. There, six years ago, he met a wonderful young woman, Kim Sorber, and they fell in love, married and had a son named Stephen, whom they both adored. Like his Daddy, Stephen as a baby was very sick, but he too beat the odds and has grown into a strong, healthy, happy and mischievous four and a half year old.
Matthew, the son, brother, husband and father, was a deeply religious, kind and gentle man. He was always ready to help out anyone in need, whether it was a family member, a friend or a co-worker. He loved his wife, his son, his mother and father, his brothers and sisters, and his extended family deeply. And everyone loved him. His death has left a void in all our lives.
Matthew is survived by his wife, Kim, and son, Stephen, his parents, Dr. and Mrs. William J. Schirmer, his brothers, Thomas, Michael, Christopher, Joseph, and Paul Schirmer, his sisters, Karen Coon and Ellen Schirmer, twenty seven nieces and nephews, and three grandnieces and nephews. Matthew was preceded in death by his brother Peter, two years ago.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Capital Speech & Language School, 2011 W. Koenig Lane, Austin, Texas 78756.
