    • Paul Joseph Ruttman, 89, died July 1, 2004, of natural causes in Klamath Falls.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in O'Hair & Riggs Funeral Chapel with his grandson Lloyd Paine officiating. Interment will be at Klamath Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today in O'Hair & Riggs Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Ruttman was born April 7, 1915, in Canadian, Texas, to William Joseph and Edna Eleanor (Bellows) Ruttman.
He was also raised in Canadian.
As a young man, he worked for his uncles, doing farm work in Oklahoma.
He married Theda "Irene" Griffith on Aug. 14, 1936, in Woodward, Okla., and a short time later they moved to Colorado, where he worked as an ore miner for the Ophir Mine.
He also began heavy hauling for hire with his Dodge truck.
After the birth of their only child, they moved to Tulelake and he began working as a welder and blacksmith at Tommy Garrett's Garage.
In 1942, Mr. Ruttman and a friend started their own trucking business, Ruttman and Alcorn, and with their two tractor-trailer rigs hauled produce from local farmers to the Southern California area, returning with a variety of fruits and vegetables, such as lettuce, oranges and bananas, for Pacific Fruit.
They sold the business in 1965 and he and his wife purchased the Shady Lanes Trailer Park and Laundromat in Tulelake. He was also a hunting guide to the Tulelake waterfowl hunting areas and drove the mail for the Bank of America.
They moved to Klamath Falls in 1980.
Mr. Ruttman was an accomplished mechanic, metal worker and welder and always kept busy maintaining his equipment, both in the truck business and the laundromat. In Klamath Falls, he built a large shop at his home to work on his maintenance projects and do repairs for his neighbors.
He enjoyed hunting squirrels, rodents, pheasants, waterfowl, and deer.
He was an avid rodeo fan and liked watching wrestling matches and attending NASCAR races. His cousins Joe and Troy Ruttman, who won numerous trophies in those races, were his favorite drivers.
Among his other interests were caring for his yard, growing a large vegetable garden, and sharing what was grown there with his friends and family members.
On snowy days, he enjoyed plowing the snow, using a blade attached to his truck, and making certain the roadways and driveways of his neighbors were clear.
Mr. Ruttman was a life member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his daughter Paula Paine of Lemoore, Calif.; grandchildren and their spouses Lloyd and Jennifer Paine, Elizabeth N. Paine, and Scott and Teresa Paine of California; great-grandchildren Amanda Reedey and Brennan, Keven, Pamela and Amy Paine; sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Sam Carnes of Klamath Falls; and brother and sister-in-law James and Marie Ruttman of Oklahoma City, Okla.
He also leaves special friend Elouise McCornack of Klamath Falls.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 23, 2002; sister Gwendolyn Storm in 1982; brother Harold Wayne Ruttman in July 1998; and granddaughter Pam Paine.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1649, Klamath Falls, OR 97601, or Friends of Pets, 239 Main St., Klamath Falls, OR 97601.
