    • The Amory family homestead, where Samuel lived his early years, was located around 68th Street and Sixth Avenue. Samuel's father Peter B. Amory sold the family's land holdings in a series of transactions between 1852 and 1854 for the creation of Central Park.

      Per Barton Adams Taylor: Middle name Burtus is derived from Burtis, Alburtis, and finally Alberti. All descended from Andero Alberti of Venice, Italy, b. 1578, Secretary of the Ducal Treasury of Venice.
