      Goldie Irene Hughes

      MADISONVILLE, Ky. ? Goldie Irene Hughes, 96, of Madisonville, died at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.

      She was born Sept. 22, 1909, in Hopkins County, Ky., to James Wesley and Virginia Gaston Jones. She was a homemaker and an employee of Madisonville Steam Laundry. She was a member of Grapevine Holiness Church in Madisonville.

      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William ?Bill? Hughes, on May 8, 1976; a son, Louis Earl Gibson; three sisters, Ruby Jones, May Ashworth and Beulah Jones; three brothers, Roy Jones, Elmer Jones and Willis Jones; and a half brother, J.W. Jones.

      She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Joyce Zuniga of Hopkinsville, Ky., Shirley Ann Bowles of Hanson, Ky., and Mary Evelyn Alexander of South Dakota; three sons, Carl H. Gibson, Raymond H. Gibson and James C. Gibson, all of Madisonville; a half sister, Geraldine Alexander of Madisonville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services are 2 p.m. today in the chapel at Harris Funeral Home with Bro. Eddie Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in Grapevine Cemetery in Madisonville.

      Pallbearers are David Gibson, Roger Allen Gibson, Darrell Gibson, Tony Gibson, Josh Ezell, Jordon Gibson and Mike Long. The honorary pallbearer is Marvin ?Butch? Gibson.

      Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service today at the funeral home.

      Arvel A. Hobgood

      MADISONVILLE, Ky. ?? Arvel A. Hobgood, 93, of Madisonville, died at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home in Madisonville.

      He was born June 17, 1912, in Webster County, Ky., to John G. and Willie Hester Hobgood. He was a retired farmer and a longtime member and former elder of Nebo Christian Church. He had been a resident of Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home for nine years.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emmalene Kington Hobgood, on Sept. 18, 1995; one sister, Erah Hobgood; and three brothers, the Rev. Rollan Hobgood, Elvy Hobgood and Opal C. Hobgood.

      He is survived by one daughter, Martine Lansden of Owensboro, Ky.; two sons, Morris W. Hobgood of Madisonville and John ?Bill? Hobgood of Evansville, Ind.; two sisters, Ima V. Jackson of Indianapolis, Ind., and Hester Kington of Madisonville; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

      Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville with Bros. Howard W. Crowe and Ted Morelock officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Nebo, Ky.

      Pallbearers will be Lisa Ryan, Lanny W. Lansden, Lonnie R. Lansden, Dirk D. Hobgood, Jason Hobgood, Kevin Hobgood and Brad Hobgood.

      Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

      Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Nebo Christian Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
      Mary Cleo Chandler

      POOLE, Ky. Mary Cleo Chandler, 80, of Poole, died Thursday, June 15, 2006, at her home.

      She was born May 8, 1926, in Henderson, Ky. She was a member of Shady Grove General Baptist Church in Poole and Order of the Eastern Star Ermine Ford Chapter 9 in Poole. She was also a member of Poole Homemakers and the former operator of Chandler's Grocery in Poole.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Eugene Chandler, in 1997.

      She is survived by three sons, Vernon Chandler and James Chandler of Poole, and Donald Chandler of Sebree, Ky.; a daughter, Judy Coomer of Oakland City, Ind.; a brother, Wilsie Pruitt of Poole; a sister, Betty Winstead of Poole; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon, Ky., with the Revs. Bob Fulcher and Ron Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery in Poole.

      Visitation will be from 3 until 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until time of service Sunday.

      Memorial contributions can be made to St. Anthony's Hospice of Webster County or to the Shady Grove General Baptist Church building fund.
