- Margaret (Margy) S. Conlin
Resident of Greenfield Senior Living Center, Margaret (Margy) Conlin passed away June 6, one day after her 92nd birthday. She was born in Newark, New Jersey June 5, 1924, 6th child of August and Mary Schirmer. One of her sisters, Mary Agnes Schoenberger lived with her for a number of years, and preceded her in death in March of 2012.
Margy received a B.S. in Biology 1946 at Mount St. Scholastica College Atchison, Kansas and then earned her Registered Nursing degree from St. Vincent’s Hospital in NYC in 1949. She had seven children, two of whom were mentally disabled. She is survived by all her children, 5 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Margy returned to nursing in 1976 and worked as a neurosurgical nurse for f1 years at the Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was an Active Board Member of the Association for Retarded Citizens of Anderson County for more than 20 years, holding the offices of President and also Secretary. She served as the Chairperson of Ministry to the Handicapped at St. Mary’s Church in Oak Ridge, TN. She was a member of the Social Action Committee at St. Mary’s and a member of the multi-denominational Church Women United. She was a puppeteer for Kids on the Block for 5 years.
Margy was an infrequent guest columnist in the Oak Ridger, sharing stories and adventures with family and friends.
Please join family and friends for a celebration of life on Saturday, June 11 from 5-7 pm at the Columbus Hall, 317 Vermont Avenue in Oak Ridge. Mass will follow at St. Mary’s Church, 327 Vermont Ave, Oak Ridge.
In lieu of flowers, Margy has requested that memorial donations be made to the Emory Valley Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
