    • OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -

Mary Agnes Schoenberger, 94, came to Oak Ridge in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. She made her home with her sister, Margy Conlin, and was welcomed with open arms by Margy's community and St. Mary's Catholic Church members. She was actively involved with ORICL, Church Women United, and other groups. She "worked out" three times a week with Margy and her friends at Curves until January of this year. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and supported causes and charities that protect the downtrodden.

Mary Agnes was predeceased by her husband, Art Schoenberger; and her daughter, Marian S. Hebert.

She will be deeply missed by her loving daughters, Mary Antosca, Annemarie Henderson and Dawn Davis; and grandsons, Nick and Gianmarco Antosca, and Iain, Rob and Brandon Caruso, as well as sons-in-law, Steve Antosca and Val Hebert. Four surviving sisters will greatly feel her loss, Margy Conlin, Sr. Loretta Schirmer, O.S.B., Terese Piccoli and Annemarie (and Bill) Cuff. Four other siblings predeceased her.

Mary Agnes grew up in Elizabeth and Newark, N.J., graduated from Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kan., received a master's degree from Columbia University in New York City, taught at Xavier University in New Orleans in the '50s (where she met her husband) and made her home in New Orleans for 50 years before joining her sister in Oak Ridge in 2005. She will be missed by her friends everywhere.

At Mary Agnes' request, her body has been donated to Life Legacy for scientific research.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oak Ridge. A reception in Columbus Hall will follow.

In lieu of flowers, Mary Agnes expressed her preference that you perform an extra act of kindness or send a donation to the Southern Poverty Law Center, P.O. Box 5604, Montgomery, AL 36177-7455.

Jackson Funeral Services in Oliver Springs is honored to serve the Schoenberger family. We invite you to share your thoughts and memories with the family at jacksonfuneralservices.com.
